Burberry Talk

Today I was extremely lucky to be given the chance to attend a talk from Burberry at uni, which was given by Burberry's Senior Vice President of Creative Media - Greg Stogden. My lecturer questioned him on his education, career and how he came to be at Burberry and it was amazingly informative and inspiring to hear from someone who has done the course we are doing and is now working in industry in a brand that I adore and would one day dream to be apart of.

Greg Stogden also shown us some promotional videos that were made in conjunction with apple all using the new iphone 5s, it was so interesting to see the videos and to know that I could produce footage like that with my own phone, this definitely gave me the kick that I needed to realise I need to up my game when it came to social media. One of the videos was of the Burberry holographic fashion show in Beijing which Stogden described as 'One of the most magical moments i've had at Burberry' and I could see why, the holographic shapes moving on the screen, the vast crowd and the models storming the catwalk was indeed magical and created an interesting buzz that was even captured on camera. Another video we were shown was one on 'Burberry kisses' which was made in conjuction with Google, were people kiss their touchscreen phone and can send their kiss to people all across the world which I thought was a really good idea and promotional concept for Burberry because it is interactive with consumers and can introduce the brand to new consumers who may not be aware of it beforehand.

Also it was really interesting to hear about the new and exciting ways Burberry are using technology in their stores. He told us he found some very old film reels of how the trench coat was made and how this turned into an idea to show videos in store next to specific products showing people how they were made, which I think is a great idea because it shows people the time and effort gone into the garment meaning they are more likely to think higher of the product. An inspiring line from his talk which really made me think about my future was 'Every week at Burberry I do something I have never done before' which just made me think about how I  want to succeed, and how I want to be doing new and exciting things each week. He also gave us good advice on how to get your foot in the industry and be able to do the kind of things he does, which was basically be focused, create your own focused portfolio to show people what you are good at and be a well rounded motivated person because that is what is going to show in your interview, which I think is excellent advice as normally you are just told about what to put on your C.V. Overall I think the talk give me a much better insight to Burberry as  brand, and also really give me the motivation and made me aspire to do well so one day I can be working for a company like Burberry and experiencing new and exciting experiences everyday!
