This is a little flashback series I am starting on my blog, were every Friday I am going to blog about a collection, editorial or designer from the past and just look back on why I liked it or them so much and share some beautiful images on my blog, This week I am looking back at Alexander McQueen's RTW Spring 2007 collection which is a favourite McQueen collection of mine, because of its beautifully intricate historic clothing and dramatic setting. Staged in the Cirque de'Hiver, the setting had a surprisingly intimate feel to it, with the musicians playing close by to all the models and antique chandelier hanging from he ceiling. The whole show to me had a very dark, gothic and romantic feel to it, because of the black bodice-fitted jackets, sheer embellished fabrics and exaggerated silhouettes blooming with petals all in a colour palette of black white and soft chalky pastels. The collection oozed dramatic glamour, especially with the ghostly white make up looks and the creepy blank expressions the models sported framed by the dry wispy hair that fell from their head. This was a very 'soft' collection for McQueen using much more feminine silhouettes compared to his previous collections, some say this was due to his experience at Givenchy, that it had given him a more feminine couture edge that he had been working into his own brand. McQueen said himself after the show "The more I mature, the less confrontational I become, I've softened a bit in my old age." Below are some of my favourite looks from the show.
