On the first day we did what every tourist there has to do and that is to go to the top of the Empire State Building and admire the breathtaking view of Manhattan, even having done this before I still cant believe how amazing it is when you step foot out of the lift. Once we had frozen off every one of our fingers trying to take pictures we moved on to Times Square were we took in all of the lights, shops and realised we were in one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world!
On our next day we explored the main tourist areas, Times Square, 5th Avenue, Madison Avenue, Bloomingdales, Macy's, F.A.O.SCHWARTZ, Tiffany's and Apple, this was really fun as we got to see a lot of mainstream and luxury brands which had amazing window displays and fabulous visual merchandising!
Further into the week we visited some much more urban areas of New York such as soho which was my personal favourite as it mixed high end with low end and glamorous with cheap and tacky, and the vibe was just great you could be walking past the Chanel shop to stumble into a cheap thrift store.
Another urban area we visited was Williamsburg in Brooklyn which was really interesting to see an area of New York that was not Manhattan. It was more run down than Manhattan but in my opinion it made it more interesting to look around at all of the derelict areas and shops. In Williamsburg there are a lot of vintage and thrift stores which were really fun to look around and find some amazing pieces!
Later on that day I went from one extreme to the other and got the subway up to the upper east side where I went to do some research for my zine on my chosen brand Celine. The store was incredible and although the staff werent allowed to answer any of my questions it was good research to look around the store and get a feeling for it.
Overall my trip to New York was a dream come true it really is a city that never sleeps, I loved every minute of being there and soaking up every last bit of being a tourist and I can assure you it will not be the last time I go, saving starts now!
