Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel

Recently our lecturers played us the film 'Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel' which is a documentary surrounding the life of the internationally famous vogue editor in chief. I knew of Vreeland before the film through research and the internet but never knew in depth her  about her opinions and how she changed the way we all view fashion. I found the film really interesting and it opened my eyes on how we have to look outside the box to gain inspiration and not just research relevant things that we think are right and the 'norm' and how our eyes do have to travel, see the world and experience different countries and culture. By looking at things in a different perspective and visiting not only cultures and cities but areas, buildings and museums in your nearby surroundings will make me become much better as a visual communicator. As well as how she taught us to look at fashion I also love her view on people and how she celebrated models flaws and used new and different looking models for the covers which is something I love to see in magazines instead of the regular Gisele resembling supermodel. The film was also really interesting looking at it from a work perspective and seeing how devoted she was to her job and that it was her everything, I really enjoyed watching such an admirable woman so determined as I believe myself I am really determined, fashion is my sole interest and I would love one day to be as powerful and determined as Vreeland, and this film inspired me to work towards that!
